The MA-H Series is Okuma’s core horizontal machining center line — built specifically for long, unattended production runs rather than one-off precision jobs. Unlike the vertical machining centers covered elsewhere on this site, a horizontal machine holds the workpiece on a vertical face and cuts sideways, which naturally lets chips fall away from the cutting zone by gravity rather than piling up on the table. That’s a genuine practical advantage for the long, lights-out cycles the MA-H Series is built around, and Okuma backs it up with large-volume chip discharge systems designed specifically for automated, extended running. Shops moving from vertical to horizontal machining for the first time often underestimate how much this single geometric difference changes day-to-day maintenance.

Because tool magazine capacity, pallet size and spindle configuration all vary significantly across the MA-H range, confirming the exact model and options fitted matters before ordering any parts — a 40-tool MA-500HII and a heavily automated MA-12500H share a family name but very little else mechanically.

Which OSP Control Does the MA-H Series Use?

Current MA-H Series machines run OSP-P500, with some machines equipped with the OSP-P300S variant that includes Machining Navi, a Collision Avoidance System, and real-time process monitoring built in. Given how long a production run on this platform can be, these monitoring features are genuinely useful for catching a developing problem before it turns into scrapped parts across an entire unattended shift.

Because the MA-H Series spans such a wide range of spindle and pallet configurations, we always confirm the exact model and control generation before ordering replacement boards — a control built for a compact MA-500HII isn’t automatically compatible with a large-pallet MA-12500H, even on the same OSP generation.
