What ORL-D Is
ORL-D is the drawer-style member of Okuma’s Robot Loader (ORL) series, launched in 2024. Instead of a rotating disc, it uses drawer-based storage designed specifically for dual-process operations — simultaneous loading of raw material and unloading of finished parts, so an operator can restock one drawer while the robot works from another. Standard templates hold up to 92 workpieces, with optional templates extending that to 180 smaller parts or down to 42 larger ones.
Like the rest of the ORL series, it uses a FANUC industrial robot arm and gripper, pre-programmed to integrate with the machine’s Okuma OSP-P300 or OSP-P500 control — Okuma’s own documentation describes setup in fewer than ten conversational steps, with no separate robotics experience required. Its compact footprint was specifically designed to support retrofitting onto older Okuma machines, not just new ones.

What We Repair on ORL-D
ORL-D uses a FANUC robot arm bridged to the machine’s OSP control, so faults usually trace back to that bridge, the arm’s own drives, or the dual-drawer sensors. Here’s what we work on.
OSP Integration Boards
Bridge the FANUC robot controller to the machine’s OSP control. Faults here typically show up as the loader failing to sync with the machine’s cycle.
Robot Arm Servo Drives
Amplifiers that drive the FANUC arm’s joints. A single failed drive typically shows up as the arm losing position or refusing to move.
Drawer Position Sensors
Track which drawer is presented and confirm it’s correctly seated. A fault here can cause a missed pick or a jam.
Encoders & Feedback
Report the arm’s exact position back to the control. A failing encoder causes drift that’s easy to mistake for mechanical wear.
Operator Interface
The panel used for the loader’s pre-programmed conversational setup steps. We repair the display and interface boards behind it.
Power Supply Units
Regulates voltage to the loader’s control and drive electronics — one of the first things we check on any fault.
