What ORL-MC Is
ORL-MC is the machining-center member of Okuma’s Robot Loader (ORL) series, launched in 2024 and built specifically for vertical machining centers rather than lathes. It combines workpiece storage — up to 288 parts — with patented MultiGrip workholding that can automate multiple OP10, OP20 and OP30 operations on the same part, switching workholding in the machine automatically based on which cutting operation is being performed. It’s commonly paired with an Automatic Tool Changer for genuinely unattended multi-operation production.
Like the rest of the ORL series, it uses a FANUC industrial robot arm and gripper, pre-programmed to integrate with the machine’s Okuma OSP-P300 or OSP-P500 control, so no separate robotics experience is needed to run it. Its footprint was specifically designed to support retrofitting onto older Okuma machining centers, not just new ones.

What We Repair on ORL-MC
ORL-MC uses a FANUC robot arm bridged to the machine’s OSP control and ATC, so faults usually trace back to that bridge, the arm’s own drives, or the MultiGrip workholding’s sensors. Here’s what we work on.
OSP & ATC Integration Boards
Bridge the FANUC robot controller to the machine’s OSP control and its Automatic Tool Changer. Faults here typically show up as the loader falling out of sync with tool changes.
Robot Arm Servo Drives
Amplifiers that drive the FANUC arm’s joints. A single failed drive typically shows up as the arm losing position or refusing to move.
MultiGrip Workholding Sensors
Confirm the correct workholding configuration is active for the current operation. A fault here can machine a part incorrectly.
Encoders & Feedback
Report the arm’s exact position back to the control. A failing encoder causes drift that’s easy to mistake for mechanical wear.
Operator Interface
The panel used for the loader’s pre-programmed conversational setup steps. We repair the display and interface boards behind it.
Power Supply Units
Regulates voltage to the loader’s control and drive electronics — one of the first things we check on any fault.
