What OSP U100 Is

OSP U100 sits at a genuine turning point in Okuma’s control history — the generation that bridged the older floppy-disk-based storage of OSP5000/OSP7000 and the Compact Flash storage that became standard on the OSP E100 generation that followed it. It’s also documented under the shorter OSP-U10 designation, the same control family under alternate naming that shows up on nameplates and manuals interchangeably.

One feature worth noting on the lathe variant is One-Touch IGF-L, an early conversational programming aid that let operators build part programs through guided graphics rather than hand-coding every line — a precursor to the more advanced IGF functionality carried forward into later OSP generations.

Alarm Classification & Common Codes

OSP U100 alarms follow the same severity classification carried through every later OSP generation. Knowing which type you’re seeing helps narrow down the likely cause before we even look at the machine.

Alarm-P

Stops NC operation entirely. All NC functions inoperative.

A

Alarm-A

Shuts off power to axis servo drives — the classic “axis servo error” alarm on this generation.

B

Alarm-B

Machine remains inoperative until reset and cleared.

C

Alarm-C

No new program can run until cleared; panel operations remain available.

D

Alarm-D

Least severe; typically informational or a minor operational block.

Common OSP U100 Faults

Programs or parameters won’t load

Often the storage interface board rather than the storage medium itself — we test the interface electronics directly before assuming a media failure.

One-Touch IGF-L unresponsive

Usually the IGF-L interface board rather than the core NC — the machine can often still run manually-coded programs while this is diagnosed.

Parameters lost after power-down

A classic sign of a failing backup battery, extremely common on controls that have been running continuously for decades.

Axis servo alarms during warm-up

Often the servo interface board rather than the servo motor or drive itself — worth a proper diagnosis before condemning the whole servo system.
