ROID Series — Standalone Robot

STANDROID Installation, Retrofit & Repair

Independent installation, retrofit and repair for Okuma’s STANDROID standalone robot package — including the control electronics, servo drives and sensors behind it.

What STANDROID Is

STANDROID is Okuma’s standalone robot package — a free-standing six-axis arm paired with an integrated workpiece stocker, designed specifically for high-mix, low-to-medium volume production. Unlike ARMROID, it isn’t built into the machine tool at the factory: it’s a genuinely retrofittable cell that can be added to a compatible existing machine, which is the core of what we help with.

STANDROID was designed to be “teaching-less” — it runs on a global-first Robot Operating System (ROS) integration that lets an operator handle it with the same ease as running the machine tool itself, without robot programming experience. The whole robot, stocker and related equipment packages into a footprint of roughly two pallets, and because it’s a self-contained cell, it can even be relocated by forklift. Okuma’s own documentation describes setup in three steps — positioning, installation/wiring, then simple operation through ROID Navi — with no third-party systems integrator required.

We handle both sides of that: installing and commissioning STANDROID on a compatible machine that doesn’t have it yet, and repairing the control electronics on units already in service. We are an independent service provider, not an authorized Okuma dealer or service partner — see our retrofit & modernization and testing & diagnostics services for more on how we approach this kind of work.

The Compact Automated Cell (CAC) Package

STANDROID ships as a packaged cell rather than a collection of separate parts, which is a large part of why it installs quickly. Here’s what’s inside, and what we support on each piece.

6-Axis Robot Arm

The free-standing arm itself, with signal confirmation already completed at the factory before it ships.

Integrated Workpiece Stocker

Positioned by pins for easy relocation, holding raw and finished parts within the cell’s footprint.

ROID Navi Programming

The same guided interface used on ARMROID — no separate robot programming language to learn.

Collision-Free Control

Automatically generates the shortest non-interfering motion path in a tight, fence-free space.

Common STANDROID Faults

One joint loses position or won’t move

Usually a single joint’s servo drive or encoder rather than the whole arm — we test each joint’s drive electronics individually before recommending a repair.

Cell stops or won’t run in automatic mode

Often traced to the collision-free control system or a communication fault between the robot controller and the OSP, rather than a mechanical jam.

ROID Navi interface unresponsive or frozen

Display and interface board faults are common on units that have been running for years — usually repairable at board level.

Stocker misfeeds or positioning errors

Usually a sensor or drive fault at the stocker rather than a problem with the parts themselves — we test each independently.

See our fault analysis service for more on how we approach a STANDROID diagnosis.

How STANDROID Installation & Repair Works

New installation and repair follow different paths, but both start the same way: tell us what you need.

1

Tell Us the Goal

New installation on a compatible machine, or a fault on an existing STANDROID cell — plus your OSP control generation.

2

We Scope the Work

For installs, we confirm machine compatibility and package fit. For repairs, we identify the faulty board or drive.

3

Install, Commission or Repair

On-site installation and commissioning, or component-level bench repair — whichever the job calls for.

4

Tested Before Handover

Verified under load — running production cycles, not just powered on — before we call it done.
