What OSP-P300 Is

OSP-P300 is Okuma’s touchscreen control generation that succeeded OSP-P200, and it remains one of the most widely deployed controls on active shop floors today, alongside the newer OSP-P500. Its defining feature is a shared database: data entered in one area of the control — a tool offset, a workpiece parameter — is automatically available everywhere else it’s needed, cutting down on redundant data entry and setup time.

Okuma later introduced an advanced revision, OSP-P300A, adding tighter integration between functions like One-Touch IGF and the Collision Avoidance System, easier connectivity to factory and business networks, and the ability to email an operator’s phone when an alarm occurs. Both the base P300 and the P300A generation are still common across active Okuma installations, and we treat them as one family for repair purposes since the underlying board architecture is closely related.

OSP-P300 was built in several machine-specific variants, each tuned to the process it controls. The “A” suffix denotes the later advanced revision of each.

Alarm Classification & Common Codes

OSP-P300 alarms are classified into five severity levels. Knowing which type you’re seeing helps narrow down the likely cause before we even look at the machine.

P

Alarm-P

Stops NC operation entirely. All NC functions inoperative.

A

Alarm-A

Shuts off power to X/Z-axis servo drives.

B

Alarm-B

Machine remains inoperative until reset and cleared.

C

Alarm-C

No new program can run until cleared; panel operations remain available.

D

Alarm-D

Least severe; typically informational or a minor operational block.

Common OSP-P300 Faults

Control won’t boot or hangs on startup

Often a main CPU board or power supply fault rather than a total control failure — worth a proper diagnosis before assuming the whole unit needs replacing.

Touchscreen unresponsive or drifting

Usually the touchscreen panel or its driver board rather than the main control — we test each independently.

Parameters or programs lost after power-down

A classic sign of a failing backup battery or memory board, common on units that have been running for many years.

Intermittent, hard-to-reproduce alarms

Often an I/O module issue rather than a wiring problem — we test signal paths individually to isolate the cause.

Machines That Ran OSP-P300

OSP-P300 succeeded OSP-P200 in the mid-to-late 2000s and remained Okuma’s standard control through roughly the 2010s, before OSP-P500 began replacing it. It’s still active on a large number of machines in the field today.
