OSP-P500 is Okuma’s newest control, succeeding OSP-P300 as the current generation. It made its Western-hemisphere debut at Gosigerfest in Dayton, Ohio in September 2023 and became available for purchase on select Okuma machine tool models that fall. Its defining feature is Digital Twin Technology — high-precision machining simulations built on a computer, with real-time data feedback loops between the simulation and the actual running machine, which is what powers Okuma’s smarTwinCELL automation cell simulator.
The control runs on dual-core processors for redundant, uninterrupted operation, and ships with a 15-inch or 21.5-inch full-color touchscreen depending on the machine it’s paired with, plus a QWERTY keyboard and tilt-and-swivel ergonomics. It also comes standard with Okuma’s ECO Suite Plus — energy monitoring, Eco Idling Stop, Eco Power Monitor, and CO2 emissions reporting at the machine level — and a genuinely more serious approach to cybersecurity than earlier generations, including API whitelisting, anomaly detection, and required operator authentication.

Board-Level Components We Repair
Most OSP-P500 faults trace back to one of the following boards or assemblies rather than requiring a full control swap.
Dual-Core Main Board
Runs the core NC processing across both processor cores. Faults here can range from a control that won’t boot to a loss of the redundancy the dual-core design is meant to provide.
Servo Interface Board
Bridges the control to the axis and spindle drives. A single failed drive typically shows up as one axis losing position or refusing to move.
Touchscreen Display Assembly
The 15-inch or 21.5-inch full-color touchscreen. We repair both the panel and the display driver board behind it.
PLC Board
Handles machine-side logic — interlocks, doors, coolant, tool changer sequencing. Faults here often show up as B or C-level alarms.
Digital Twin Feedback Interface
Carries the real-time data connection between the running machine and its digital twin simulation. A fault here breaks the sync between them without necessarily affecting normal machining.
Power Supply Units
Regulates voltage to the control’s electronics — one of the first things we check on any fault.
Alarm Classification & Common Codes
OSP-P500 alarms follow the same five-level severity classification carried through every OSP generation. Knowing which type you’re seeing helps narrow down the likely cause before we even look at the machine.
Alarm-P
Stops NC operation entirely. All NC functions inoperative.
Alarm-A
Shuts off power to X/Z-axis servo drives.
Alarm-B
Machine remains inoperative until reset and cleared.
Alarm-C
No new program can run until cleared; panel operations remain available.
Alarm-D
Least severe; typically informational or a minor operational block.

Common OSP-P500 Faults
Digital twin simulation falls out of sync
Usually the feedback interface rather than a software bug — we check the hardware connection before assuming a configuration issue, and normal machining is typically unaffected either way.
Touchscreen unresponsive or drifting
Usually the touchscreen panel or its driver board rather than the main control — we test each independently.
Operator authentication or whitelisting errors
Sometimes a configuration issue rather than a hardware fault, but if it persists after settings are checked, it’s worth having the control electronics tested too.
Intermittent, hard-to-reproduce alarms
Often a specific I/O module rather than a wiring problem — we test signal paths individually to isolate the cause.
