What Is Okuma Cooling & Lubrication Service?

Every Okuma machine depends on two fluid systems working correctly: coolant that keeps the cutting zone from overheating, and way lube that keeps ball screws and linear guides moving without excess friction. We handle both sides of keeping these systems healthy — the physical work of draining and refilling fluid, cleaning sludge out of tanks, replacing pump seals and filters, and the electronics behind them: pump control boards, level and pressure sensors, thermal circuits, and water-in-oil detection. We're a full-service shop, not an electronics-only specialist — the same team that repairs your control board can also clean your coolant tank and service your way lube pump.

When something goes wrong, the fix depends on correctly identifying the actual cause first. A "low level" alarm that won't clear can mean the tank genuinely needs fluid, or it can mean sludge is blocking the sensor orifice while the tank stays full. An oil hole motor overload alarm can mean a failed pump motor or a clogged line making it work harder than it should. We diagnose which one you're actually dealing with, then do the repair ourselves — whether that's cleaning a fouled sensor, replacing a pump seal, or repairing a control board.

Way lube pumps in particular have a known service life — the pump types commonly used on Okuma machines run roughly 8,000 hours under normal conditions, but contaminated oil or irregular maintenance can cut that closer to 4,000 hours. The smallest lubrication jets, the ones feeding ball screw nuts, tend to clog first and are often the earliest sign of a developing problem — whether the fix turns out to be a thorough cleaning or a full pump rebuild.

Why a "Low Level" Alarm Isn't Always Low Level

One of the most common false alarms we see: a full tank throwing a persistent low-level warning. The usual cause isn't the sensor lying — it's sludge or debris blocking the small orifice the sensor actually monitors. The pump is running, the tank is full, but the flow the sensor is supposed to see never reaches it, so the system reports empty. Draining and refilling the tank does nothing for this, because the fluid was never the problem.

The same logic applies across the system. An oil hole motor overload alarm can mean a genuinely failed pump motor, or it can mean a clogged lubrication line making the motor work harder than it should. A water-in-oil warning can mean actual contamination, or a sensor that's drifted out of calibration. Telling these apart is exactly what diagnosis is for — and it's the difference between a five-minute sensor cleaning and an unnecessary fluid change.

We check the electronics and the physical fluid path together — sensor, wiring, control board, and the actual orifice, line or tank the sensor depends on. Whichever one turns out to be the cause, we handle the fix in the same visit: a fouled sensor gets cleaned or replaced, a genuinely low tank gets refilled, a clogged line gets cleared.
